It's not always Lays of the Empire book to think about edited collections of essays as a whole book. In the case of Shawn Lay's Invisible Empire in the West, however, the task is relatively simple.

His introduction lays out a clear goal for the collection, and wham-bam it comes through. Almost too perfectly/5. Some time ago, I read Niall Ferguson’s “Empire”, where he lays out the case that the British Empire was, by and large, A Good Thing, with just a few minor superficial blemishes.

It reminded me a bit of “A Hymn to Him” in “My Fair Lady”: One man in a million may shout a bit/5(). With a bit of time to reflect, I definitely preferred the second book and can't justify giving this one the same rating ***MAJOR SPOILERS*** City of Brass 3 ⭐ Kingdom of Copper ⭐ Empire of Gold 3 ⭐ Daevabad Trilogy = /15 ⭐ Firstly, Congratulations to borty on completing her debut trilogy, what a fantastic and hard /5.

I liked this book enough that it had to be replaced when I lost my first copy. It is a very good, concise review of several important, influential ancient empires.

Along with the expected entries on Egypt, Greece, and Rome, are chapters covering the Hittites, Parthians, Aechaemenid and Sasanid Persians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and s: 4.

This book is very thought provoking and Andre's analysis is clearly thought out and convincing. This books shows the true nature of the real evil empire and the greed that is central to it. This is a must read and I have recommended it to several friends already.
